Call for artists

Slate, a window display space in Leytonstone, is calling for artists for 6 week shows during 2012. This is an opportunity for new and established artists to exhibit their work in a central location just a couple of minutes from the tube station. Slate focuses on community arts and welcomes proposals from community groups as well as individuals.

Any “flat art” is suitable, as it would be displayed on boards just inside the windows. One window is 2.4m wide, the other two are 1.8m wide. There is a token cost of just £10 to exhibit. More information is available in the exhibition guidelines (on the About page, at

To apply, email with a description of your art and details of how you would use the space. Please attach photographs or link to a website with images of your work. If there are any dates in 2012 when you are not available to exhibit, let us know that too.

You don’t need to have exhibited before but you do need a vision of how you will use the display space. Share that vision with us and we could see your art at Slate.

Come and explore EDEN

A new show went up on 12 March – EDEN by Carne Griffiths. In the preceding two weeks, Carne had been based in the Stone Space where he created the drawings, inspired by plants brought in by members of the public. EDEN is drawn in calligraphy ink and then painted in tea, Carne’s distinctive style.

The finished work is now on display in Slate until 21 April

The photo doesn’t do it justice – EDEN is a beautiful, intricate work. Come and have a look, and why not pop into the Stone Space next door, to check out their latest exhibition, if you come on a Thursday to Sunday?
